USAG Interim Garmisch Manager - Mr. John Cavanaugh

Mr. Cavanaugh was selected to serve as the Interim Garrison Manager for U.S. Army Garrison Garmisch in November of 2011.  His primary position prior to that was as the U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels Director of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security.  He has also temporarily fulfilled the position of Deputy to the Garrison Commander and has served in several garrison operational positions since April of 2004.

Mr. Cavanaugh served 26 years in the United States Army prior to becoming a Department of the Army Civilian.  His military career began in 1978 as a Signal Corps Photographic Technician.  He has served in  key Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership positions throughout his career field and his service is highlighted by several Joint and operational assignments.  Included in those are: 1-10th Aviation Regiment, United States Army Signal Center, Defense Information School, 2nd Signal Brigade, HQs United Stated European Command, and 7th Corps.  He culminated his army career leading the VIPER Combat Camera Team at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center.

Mr. Cavanaugh holds an Associate’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with Harold Washington College and is continuing his higher education. Aside from his civilian higher education, Mr. Cavanaugh holds several certificates within the Force Protection and Emergency Management fields from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  His military education includes the Signal Corps Advance Non-Commissioned Officer Course and he is a graduate of the Civilian Education system Intermediate Course.  Mr. Cavanaugh also has practical business experience as the owner/operator of Cavanaugh’s Portrait Studio from 2001 until 2005.

Mr. Cavanaugh’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Army Commendation Medal (1OLC) , Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award) ,Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  He was also awarded the Aircraft Crewmember Badge and the German Leistungsabzeignung (Gold).  His civilian awards include the Commanders Award for Civilian Service and the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service.
